Have You Been For A Dental Check-Up Lately?

All too often, people do not go to the dentist for one of four reasons. They may have a fear of dentists; have put off going for so long and may be embarrassed by this fact; they are unsure what to do, or they worry about not having adequate dental insurance cover to cover the costs should any major dental work be required. The number of people who will not do something simply because they do not know what to expect is really very high indeed.

Going to a dentist is no different to going to the doctor or taking your cat to the vet. It is often a mere matter of procedure. Find a local dentist who will be able to fit you onto their books and arrange an appointment. If you have a history of healthy teeth and gums you probably won't even need to worry about a big claim on your dental insurance.

Unfortunately the past few years have seen many changes in our NHS system and dentists have the choice as to how many new NHS and private patients they take on each year. Private fees are higher and thus receive preferential booking schedules and the dental surgeries will inevitably take on far higher numbers of private patients, making it far harder for individuals not wishing to go private to find a dental surgery willing to take on more NHS patients. Waiting lists can thus be very long in some areas around the UK and this has at times led to very controversial debates.

Dencover Dental Insurance Plans offer you the choice of seeing your local dentist as either a private patient or a NHS patient. The choice is yours at the end of the day. We hope that this freedom to choose makes it easier for our clients to get the dental treatment they or their families need when it counts. To save time you could call the dental surgeries over the phone and enquire as to whether they are taking on new patients and so saving you money on wasted trips. If you have not seen a dentist for a long time, tell them, they are understanding and you will be surprised at the help you will receive.

When you go for your appointment, you may not want to go too early, as surgeries can often be busy with emergency patients, meaning that you may have to wait. If you are on any medications, take a list of them to give to the receptionist.

The dentist will talk to you face to face, asking questions and generally making you feel at ease. The dentist will explain the procedure, which in the case of a check-up is a general look around your mouth. A visual check with a mirror will reveal most of what is going on in your mouth.

Even if you have good teeth, regular checkups will ensure they stay that way. Make an appointment today for a dental check-up at your local dental surgery.
